What LaCalma is
LaCalma is a refuge, a base camp. You come to disconnect, to rest and to go out and get to know the area: El Pozo Negro, the river, the trails. It is not a holiday house with every comfort, and it does not try to be.
There is what is needed and no more. Fewer things to see to, fewer things to decide, less background noise. What follows is the thinking behind the house.
What LaCalma is not
There is no air conditioning
It is a traditional stone house. In summer there is a fan. Nights in the sierra genuinely cool down, but July and August afternoons are hot and we are not going to tell you otherwise.
In winter there is a heater and blankets
There is no central heating. Stone takes its time to warm through, so you leave the heater on for a while before bed and the house holds the warmth all night. Between that and the blankets, nobody has been cold yet.
No television, washing machine, cot or extra beds
The house is for one or two people and no extra beds can be added. It is not set up for children either.
Not adapted for reduced mobility
There are stairs between the two floors, and the village itself is on a slope.
Not a place for groups or celebrations
No parties, no loud music, no barbecues. The village is small and the neighbours sleep.
If any of this puts you off, better to know now. And if it does not, this is probably exactly the place you are after.
Check-in and check-out
- Check-in from 12:00, subject to availability.
- Check-out before 12:00.
- If your arrival day coincides with other guests leaving, check-in moves to 15:00 to allow time for cleaning.
How to get in
Access is self-service, with a key safe. The code, the exact location and an explanatory video reach you the day before. We do not need to meet.
House rules
- Maximum two people. No extra places can be added.
- No loud music. The village is small and the neighbours are right there.
- No parties, celebrations or barbecues.
- Smoking is not allowed inside the house.
- Only the people included in the confirmed stay may use the house. Visitors are not allowed.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I stay a single night?
- No. LaCalma opens from two nights. A single one barely gives you time to unpack, and the house is meant for something else: slowing down, not ticking a box.
